Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This policy explains how DocEpic (“we”) handles information when you use DocEpic. In short: we have no user accounts and no database, and we don't keep your files.
1. Files you process in your browser
These tools run entirely on your device, so your files are never sent to us: Scan to PDF, OCR PDF, JPG to PDF, PDF to JPG, PDF to Markdown, Edit PDF, Add Page Numbers, Add Watermark, Crop PDF, PDF Form Fill, Unlock PDF, Protect PDF, Sign PDF, Redact PDF, Compare PDF, PDF Summarizer, Translate PDF, SVG to PNG.
If you open a password-protected PDF, the password is used only on your device.
These PDF tools also run on your device: Merge PDF, Split PDF, Remove Pages, Extract Pages, Organize PDF, PDF to Excel, Rotate PDF. Only when the files are too large for your device, or your browser can't read them (for example a damaged PDF), are they sent to our server and handled exactly like the conversions in section 2. Password-protected PDFs are never sent — the password stays on your device. The result screen says where the work was done.
2. Files converted on our servers
These tools need software that can't run in a browser, so your file is uploaded to our server: Compress PDF, Repair PDF, Word to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF, Excel to PDF, HTML to PDF, PDF to Word, PDF to PowerPoint, PDF to PDF/A.
- The file travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
- It is converted in a private temporary folder created only for your request, and that folder — your file and the result — is deleted as soon as the result has been sent back to you. Any folder left behind by a server error is removed automatically within 15 minutes.
- We don't store, copy, read or share your files, and their contents are never written to our logs.
- For “HTML to PDF” by web address, our server opens the page you enter in order to convert it.
These image and spreadsheet tools run on your device whenever your browser can handle the file, and then nothing is uploaded: Compress Image, Compress to Exact KB, Resize Image, Crop Image, Rotate & Flip Image, Add Border to Image, Image Filters, Blur Image, Watermark Image, Passport Photo Maker, Convert to JPG, Convert to PNG, Convert to WebP, HEIC to JPG, Remove Duplicates, Clean Spreadsheet, Select & Reorder Columns, Merge Excel & CSV, Split Excel & CSV, Compare Excel Sheets, CSV to Excel, Excel to CSV, JSON to Excel & CSV. Otherwise — for example HEIC photos in browsers other than Safari (Safari opens them itself), TIFF or CMYK images, when you choose to keep photo metadata, or files too large for your device — the file is processed on our server in memory only, as below. The result screen says which happened.
These tools always use our server, in memory only: Remove Background.
- The file travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and is held in the server's working memory (RAM) while it is processed. It is never saved to a disk or a database.
- HEIC/HEIF photos sent to us are the one exception to “only in working memory”: the decoder needs a file, so the photo is written for a moment to a private temporary folder that is itself kept in RAM, and deleted as soon as it has been read.
- The result is sent straight back to you and the memory is released immediately afterwards.
- We don't store, copy, read or share your files, and their contents are never written to our logs.
3. AI features (optional)
The PDF Summarizer and Translate PDF tools can work on your device (using your browser's built-in features or simple on-device methods). Where we offer “Claude AI” and you choose it, the text extracted from your PDF — not the file itself — is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to produce the summary or translation, and the result is returned to you. We don't store the text. Anthropic processes it under its own terms and privacy policy.
4. Advertising and cookies
- We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and/or other sites on the Internet. See how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.
- We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — for example which pages and tools are visited and which device types are used — so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives your IP address and browser details; it doesn't receive your files or their contents. If you choose “Only necessary”, Analytics runs without cookies and sends only limited, cookieless signals. See how Google uses this information, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- You can change your cookie choice at any time with . Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through a Google-certified consent message.
5. Information stored on your device
Your browser keeps a few settings for this site — your light/dark theme and your cookie choice — in local storage. They never leave your device.
6. Technical information
Like every website, our servers receive your IP address and browser details when you connect. We use the IP address only in memory to prevent abuse (rate limiting). Our hosting may keep standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested) for up to 14 days for security.
When you type a signature in Sign PDF, the handwriting fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.
7. Children
DocEpic is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
8. Your rights
Because we don't keep accounts or files, we usually hold no personal data about you beyond short-lived technical logs. You can contact us at any time with questions or requests at support@docepic.com.
9. Changes
We may update this policy; the date at the top shows the latest version.
