About Audio Converter

Convert audio between MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC and OGG, with the quality you choose. It also takes video files and saves their sound. Conversion runs in your browser.

How Audio Converter works

Audio Converter re-encodes your audio into the format you choose: MP3, M4A (AAC), WAV, FLAC or OGG (Vorbis). For the compressed formats you also choose the quality, from 96 kbps for speech up to 320 kbps.

It also accepts video files and saves their sound. Conversion runs in your browser with FFmpeg, so your files are never uploaded. Converting can't add quality the original doesn't have: a 128 kbps MP3 saved as WAV sounds the same, it is just bigger.

When to use Audio Converter

  • Turn WAV recordings into small MP3s to share or store.
  • Convert M4A voice memos from an iPhone into MP3 for any device.
  • Make a lossless FLAC copy of a WAV recording to save space.
  • Prepare audio in the exact format an app, website or editor asks for.

Formats explained

MP3
Plays everywhere. 192 kbps is a good default for music.
M4A
AAC audio, used by Apple devices; a little better than MP3 at the same size.
WAV
Uncompressed 16-bit audio — large files, ideal for editing.
FLAC
Lossless like WAV, but about half the size.
OGG
Vorbis audio, an open format used by many games, browsers and Linux apps. Opus files you add are saved as OGG.

Frequently asked questions

Which format should I choose?

MP3 if you're unsure — every device plays it. Choose WAV or FLAC only when you need lossless audio.

Can I convert a video to MP3 here?

Yes. Add the video and choose MP3; you can also use Video to MP3.

Will converting improve the sound?

No. Converting keeps the quality at best; it can't restore detail the original doesn't have.

Is Audio Converter free?

Yes. Audio Converter on DocEpic is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it. The site is supported by ads.

Are my files safe with Audio Converter?

Yes. Audio Converter runs entirely in your web browser, so your files never leave your device and are never uploaded to us.

Do I need to install any software?

No. Audio Converter works in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 1024 MB are accepted. Because the work happens on your device, very large files depend on your device's memory.
