About Trim Video

Keep only the part of a video you need: type the start and end times, drag the sliders, or play the video and mark the moments. Choose an exact, frame-accurate cut or a fast cut that keeps the original quality.

How Trim Video works

Trim Video keeps the part of your video between the start and end you set. An exact cut re-encodes the selected part as H.264 MP4 (or WebM for WebM videos), so it starts and ends on the precise frame you chose.

A fast cut copies the video and sound without re-encoding. It takes seconds and keeps the original quality, but it can only start at a keyframe, so the clip may begin up to a few seconds before your start time. If a file can't be cut that way, the tool makes an exact cut instead.

When to use Trim Video

  • Cut the boring start and end off a phone video before sharing it.
  • Keep just one moment — a goal, a speech, a dance — from a long recording.
  • Shorten a clip to fit the length limit of a status, story or reel.
  • Take a short sample from a long screen recording or lecture.

Exact or fast?

Exact
Frame-accurate start and end. The selected part is re-encoded, which takes longer.
Fast
No re-encoding: quick and the same quality as the original, but the start snaps to the nearest keyframe.
Time format
Type 1:05 for one minute five seconds, 65.5 for 65.5 seconds, or 1:02:03 for longer videos.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my fast cut start a little early?

Videos can only be cut without re-encoding at keyframes, which come every few seconds. Choose Exact for a precise start.

Can I cut out a part in the middle?

This tool keeps one continuous part. To remove a middle section, trim the two parts you want to keep and join them with a video editor.

Is the video uploaded?

No. Trimming happens in your browser and the video never leaves your device.

Is Trim Video free?

Yes. Trim Video on DocEpic is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it. The site is supported by ads.

Are my files safe with Trim Video?

Yes. Trim Video runs entirely in your web browser, so your files never leave your device and are never uploaded to us.

Do I need to install any software?

No. Trim Video works in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 1024 MB are accepted. Because the work happens on your device, very large files depend on your device's memory.
