About Convert Video
Change a video's format — for example an iPhone MOV or an old AVI to MP4 that plays everywhere. When the video and sound already fit the new format they are copied as they are, which is quick and keeps the quality.
How Convert Video works
Convert Video changes the format of your video to MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM. When the picture and sound already fit the new format — for example H.264 video in a MOV or MKV file going to MP4 — they are copied as they are, which takes seconds and keeps the exact quality.
With "Make it play everywhere" ticked, HEVC (the iPhone's usual format) and other less common video is re-encoded to H.264, which plays on every phone, computer and website. WebM output uses VP8 video and Vorbis sound. Re-encoding runs on your device, so it takes longer for long videos.
When to use Convert Video
- Turn an iPhone MOV into an MP4 that plays on Windows and Android.
- Convert old AVI, WMV or FLV files to MP4 for modern devices.
- Make a WebM for a website, or an MKV to archive a video.
- Fix a video that a portal or app refuses because of its format.

Frequently asked questions
Will converting reduce the quality?
Not when the streams can be copied — the result then says it was converted without re-encoding. Re-encoding to H.264 keeps the quality very close to the original.
Why won't my iPhone video play on my PC?
Many iPhones record in HEVC, which older Windows PCs and some apps can't play. Converting to MP4 with "Make it play everywhere" fixes that.
Can I make the video smaller at the same time?
Use Compress Video for that: it also converts to MP4 and lets you lower the resolution.
Is Convert Video free?
Yes. Convert Video on DocEpic is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it. The site is supported by ads.
Are my files safe with Convert Video?
Yes. Convert Video runs entirely in your web browser, so your files never leave your device and are never uploaded to us.
Do I need to install any software?
No. Convert Video works in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Is there a file size limit?
Files up to 1024 MB are accepted. Because the work happens on your device, very large files depend on your device's memory.
