About Compress PDF to 1 MB
Get a large PDF — a scanned book, a report full of photos — under 1 MB, the limit of many upload forms and email services. Text and drawings stay sharp wherever possible; pictures inside are reduced just enough.
How Compress PDF to 1 MB works
Compress PDF to KB works in two stages. First the PDF is compressed on our server with Ghostscript at the Recommended level and, if needed, the Extreme level — the same engine as Compress PDF, which keeps text and drawings sharp and selectable. The file is deleted from the server as soon as the result is sent back.
If the file is still above your limit, the pages are redrawn in your browser as JPEG pictures, and the tool searches for the resolution and quality that fill the limit as closely as possible without going over. Black and white makes text documents about half the size at the same sharpness. Each page keeps its original paper size.

Frequently asked questions
Can a 20 MB PDF become 1 MB?
Often, yes, when its size comes from photos or scans. A PDF of many high-resolution pages may need the picture step, which keeps it readable but makes the text unselectable.
Why did my PDF lose its selectable text?
Normal compression wasn't enough to reach your size, so the pages were turned into pictures. Choose a larger size if the portal allows, to keep the text.
Is my PDF stored?
No. The server copy is deleted right after compression, and the picture stage runs in your browser.
Is Compress PDF to 1 MB free?
Yes. Compress PDF to 1 MB on DocEpic is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it. The site is supported by ads.
Are my files safe with Compress PDF to 1 MB?
Yes. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, converted in a private temporary folder on our server and deleted as soon as the result is sent back. We don't keep copies and don't look at your documents.
Do I need to install any software?
No. Compress PDF to 1 MB works in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Is there a file size limit?
Files up to 100 MB each can be processed.
